These pieces are a direct result of the forest paintings. Combing through my photos, I would choose various ones to print out and create stencils with. By using the same stencil over and over, different colored layers of spray paint would accumulate, giving life to these stencils. After each use, I would hang them on the wall next to me allowing them to dry. During a massive creative lull one day, I was staring at them and realized that they had the potential to be works on their own.
While it was tempting to leave them as they were, they were all worked on…some were cut, some were painted, some were sprayed, some were cut and rearranged. However, it was important to me that they all retained their original properties as a workable stencil.
